Abstract

Direct current (DC) motor becomes a significant drive configuration for many applications across an honest vary of speeds. The convenience of control and excellent performance of the DC motor can make sure that the number of applications using them will continue for the predictable future. In this project, the speed of the DC motor is controlled by using Proportional Integral (PI), Integral Proportional (IP), and Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controllers Tuner method is used to design P-I, I-P, and PID controllers. These controllers are developed with the help of MATLAB/SIMULINK. Controllers are designed for closed-loop systems for higher results. Here P-I, I-P, PID controllers are designed by using PID tuning method. The main difference between P-I and I-P controllers is that in P-I controller proportional gain is in the feed-forward path whereas in the I-P controller the proportional gain is in the feedback path. PID controllers are highly used controllers in industries because of their high performance over P-I and I-P controllers. PID tuning method is a basic and simple method. The most disadvantage of the P-I controller is that it is high overshoot. That is undesirable in speed control of DC motor. This is often somewhat reduced in the I-P controller. However, it doesn’t eliminate the overshoot utterly. Hence we go to the PID controller, which eliminates the overshoot, but the settling time for this controller may be very little high.
