Abstract

This research investigates an innovative approach to enhance a high surface accuracy of artificial hip joint component as a femoral head, which utilized in a biomedical engineering. This work examines a magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) process method via a multi-faceted CNC finishing technique. The multiple axes on X, Y, Z, A employ a movement of magnetic field in order to eco-friendly finishing around surface of biomedical femoral heads. These eco-friendly finishing media exert significant force on the rotating and vibration surface of the femoral head, resulting in a multi-faceted finishing effect. The outcomes of this study demonstrate that this technique approach utilizing a fabrication of multi-faceted finishing CNC machine can achieve an ultra-fine and smooth surface finish on the femoral heads within a finishing duration of 12 minutes. The average surface roughness Ra value of the femoral head was notably decreased from 0.30 μm to 0.04 μm. The improvement percentage is an impressive up to 85%. These findings confirm the efficacy of a fabrication of multi-faceted finishing CNC machine using MAF process is an efficient and effective technique for achieving an ultra-smooth surface on medical components, offering significant benefits for biomaterials that widely used in the biomedical engineering industries
