Abstract

Lightning protection system in high voltage substation (230kV) using Shielding Wire and Lightning Spike.The purpose of this research was to find out the most effective methods and procedures to be used in the project study of the lightning protection system in the substation with high voltage (115kV and 230kV) in which we built this lightning protection system to reduce and protect electrical equipment in substations from lightning strikes. In studying this project, we did not study the lightning protection area for all substations due to the limited time, on the other hand, the total surface area of the whole substation was large and there was many electrical equipment. Therefore, we have identified only one part in the substation to be a project to demonstrate the procedures as well as research methods on the lightning protection system in the substation to be presented in this study project. Therefore, the designated section for this study is part of Capacitor Bank Bay, as this area is also an important part of the substation. The main devices used in this section include 230kV Capacitor Bank 2 Bay, height of each device 7.2 meters, Reactor Bank 2 Bay height 7.71 meters, 230kV Tower 21 meters, Main Busbar 9 meters high, Disconnector Switch is 5.6 meters high, and circuit breaker is 7.5 meters high, current transformer is 5.6 meters high, Surge Arrester is 5 meters high. Therefore, all these devices are most important in the study of lightning protection systems. The results show that after studying the combined use of Shielding Wire and Lightning Spike, the effectiveness of the lightning protection zone is twice that of the lightning protection zone. Therefore, it is a positive result that’s hows that the study of the use of joint lightning protection devices in lightning protection, it is more effective than using only one device.
