Abstract

he present study addresses a comparison of the cross-sectional efficiency of steel beam by increasing thickness and adding transverse stiffeners to verify the economical of both methods. By practicing the hand-calculation for both methods, the calculation of the method by increasing thickness is based on the given hypothesis, therefore the result of this researching has shown that when the distance between the transverse stiffeners are farther from each other, then the steel volume will be increased by the comparison with the increasing of thickness methods. In contrast, when the distance between the transverse stiffeners are closer to each other, the steel volume will be less by comparison with the 

increasing of thickness methods. Whereas the moment strength in calculation by increasing of thickness method have more value if we compare to the moment strength in the calculation by comparison with the increasing of thickness methods. As the result, by practicing within these two methods of hand practicing has shown us the clear result that by using the increasing thickness methods is really cost-efficient.

            Therefore, after researching on this topic of the thesis, it makes us to clearly understand about the behavior, the capacity which is calculating by hand practicing via the two above methods. Despite the carefully researching, it’s still having some few mistakes. I hope that there will be another young researcher in the next generation can come up with the topic continuously in order to gain the better result of this topic
