Abstract

This thesis describes the strength of composite beams section with various shear stud, since the amount of shear stud also affects the strength of the composite beams and the construction cost. In Design process, engineers try to minimize shear stud to meet minimum requirements due to the high cost of installation and installing time.

The Steel-concrete composite system is an efficient structural design for construction project because this system exploits the tensile strength of the steel and the compressive strength of the concrete. This efficient use of materials explains the success of this structural form, which has been widely used in multi-storey buildings and bridges. Composite beam systems are well understood in terms of the stiffness and strength improvements that can be achieved when compared with non-composite solutions. As a further development, semicontinuous composite beams in buildings provide the attractive prospect of shallower and lighter floors, with only a marginal increase in fabricated shear connector costs. A fundamental aspect of the behaviour and design of composite beams is the level of interaction between the steel section and the concrete slab. In design of partial composite beam provides the opportunity to achieve a better match of applied and resisting moment and some economy in the provision ofshear connectors. Generally, the effects of partial interaction, which are increased by the use of partial shear connection, will result in reduced strength and stiffness, and potentially enhanced ductility of the overall structural system
