Abstract | Post-installed bundled reinforcement is used to connect the existing concrete with new concrete structures when the post-installed single reinforcement is not feasible. In this study, the assessment of the bond behavior of the post-installed bundled reinforce-ment is carried out using the finite element method (FEM). The study focused on evaluating the bond strength, and failure modes when the rebars were subjected to tensile loading. First, the finite element modeling of the concrete, rebars and epoxy was carried out using the software ABAQUS/CAE with two type of post-installed bundled reinforcement 3DB10 and 2DB12. The analytical results showed that the bond strength specimen 3DB10 was 14.92MPa, lesser than the existing test 6.22%. In addition, the bond strength of specimen 2DB12 was 13.37MPa, which is 13% lower than the equivalent single rebar DB16 from the theoretical recommendation. This study discovered that the bond strength of bundled rebars might be asses using the equivalent single rebar. |
