Abstract

For the renovation of concrete structures, a post-installed reinforcement system is used to connect the existing and new concrete structures. In that application, hole drilling is carried out into the existing concrete, and then the reinforcements are inserted into the holes with adhesive material. The reason to propose this study because of construction need to upgrade structure, connection to new concrete structure, repairing, strengthening, and so on. In this study, aim to address the relevant problems and investigate the bond strength and failure mode of the post-installed reinforcement system when the embedment depth of the rebar varied. To analyze bond strength and failure modes of the system, a finite element analysis using the software ABAQUS/CAE was carried out. First, the modeling was validated with the existing experimental. Then, the investigation focused on the pull-out analysis with a concrete strength of 30MPa and rebar diameter of16mm. The theoretical, analytical and existing experimental results were brought into comparison in terms of bond strength and failure modes. The bond strength calculated using finite element was slightly greater than the existing experimental about 5.036%, 5.250%, 3.495% and 1.394% with the embedment depth of 80mm, 128mm,160mm, and 192mm, respectively. The concrete failure occurred when the embedment depth was 80mm and 128mm. However, the rebar failed when the embedment depth was 160mm and 192mm.
