Abstract

This study investigates the effect of cutting parameters on the surface roughness of turned S45C steel. Spindle speed, depth of cut, and feed rate parameters were optimized to achieve the lowest surface roughness, using 16 workpieces in the experiment. The results show that the lowest surface roughness was achieved with a depth of cut of 0.5 mm, a feed rate of 0.1 mm/rev, and a spindle speed of 800 rpm. These optimized cutting parameters can be used to achieve a specific surface roughness value on S45C steel shafts, spindles, stepped shafts, conic shafts, and bearing shafts.
