Abstract | The provision of transverse opening in floor beam to facilitate the passage of utility pipes and service ducts result not only in a more systematic layout of pipe and duct, but it also translates into substantial economic savings in the construction of a multi-story building. To investigate the problem of openings in beams, openings corners are too high stress concentration that may lead to cracking unacceptable from aesthetic and durability viewpoint and reduced stiffness. In this study demonstrate that RC beams with circular opening of diameter less than 44% of the depth of beam has no effect on the ultimate load capacity but circular opening with diameter more than 44% of h reduces the ultimate load capacity, excessive deflection under service load. |
